RSG To Spend N427bn In 2012

The Rivers State Government said it has budgeted N427billion for
2012 fiscal year.
The executive governor of the state, Rt Hon Rotimi Amaechi
disclosed this while presenting the 2012 appropriation bill to
the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The budget which is christened “Budget For Resource Utilization”
is N119bn higher than that of 2011 with its capital expenditure
estimated at N314.27billion against N268.76bn in 2011, an
increase of N43.5bn over that of last year while recurrent
expenditure is estimated at N112.73 billion which is N33.61bn
less than the 2011 recurrent expenditure of N146.34bn.
Hon Rotimi informed the lawmakers that the size of the proposed
budget has been limited by available resources as some debts
needed to be incurred to complete critical projects that will
contribute to the attainment of government's objectives and for
the best interest of the people.
Economic sector has the highest allocation of 99.14bn which is
31.54% of the budget, followed by social sector has 105.65 which
is 33.61%, Environment and Urban Management N23.81bn which is
7.6% while 81bn which is 25.77% is allocated to Establishment
Planning, Finance and Administration.
Rivers State House of Assembly has 3.01billion which is 0.96
allocated to it and judiciary N314.26million which is 0.1% of
the total budget.
Explaining the allocations Governor Amaechi stated that the
budget is focused on completion of the ongoing projects in the
state, adding that he will continue along the lines government
has trodden to address developmental issues in the critical
sectors.
Responding the speaker of the house, Rt Hon Otelemaba Amachree
enjoined him not to embark on new projects but focus on the
completion of all on going projects, noting that some of the
newly constructed roads are poorly constructed. He urged him to
direct the contractors to work according to specification.
He also asked him to complete and furnish the model schools and
health centres that are not yet completed and assured him that
the appropriation bill will be given the attention it deserves
by the house.###
