The training for effective health care waste management in Rivers State scheduled to begin Thursday, March 26, 2020 has been put off.
A statement from the office of the Sole Administrator, Rivers State Waste Management Agency, RIWAMA, said the postponement of the workshop became necessary in view of the coronavirus pandemic and in obedience to the various control measures and directives of the State government.
The new date according to the statement will be communicated to all stakeholders.
Registration for the training is however, continuous and ongoing pending the announcement of a new date for the training, the statement added.
All stakeholders including hospitals, clinics, laboratories, pharmaceuticals, chemists, mortuaries and other healthcare institutions are therefore advised to collect their Registration Forms for the training from the office of the SA, Private Service Providers to the Sole Administrator, RIWAMA, Mile 4 Rumueme, Port Harcourt or through their umbrella/various associations; the Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria, Rivers State Chapter, the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria and others or call 09033337411 for any enquiries.
Relatively, the Sole Administrator of RIWAMA, Bro Felix Obuah has reiterated that the training is mandatory for all hospitals, clinics, pharmaceuticals, chemists, laboratory, mortuaries and other health care institutions who are expected to nominate and sponsor at least two persons each.
The sole Administrator warned that failure to comply with the directive will attract severe punishment.
He stressed the need for all medical practitioners, healthcare Service Providers and institutions to handle with care clinical wastes in line with the provisions of existing Rivers State Waste Management laws as those who are found wanting in this regard will be arrested and prosecuted.
