The Oba (Eze-Ogba) of Ogbaland, His Eminence, Sir (Dr.) Chukumela Nnam Obi (OON, DSSRS, AP, JP) has appealed to the people of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State to adhere strictly to the order of Rivers State Government banning public gatherings in the state as a result of the global corona virus (CONVID 19) pandemic.
Oba Nnam Obi who is the President of ONELGA Area Council of Traditional Rulers directed Traditional Rulers, Chiefs, Village/Community leaders as well as heads of Community Development Committees in the local government area to monitor the compliance of the government order in their various areas as anything to contrary will not be tolerated.
The Ogba monarch who addressed an emergency stakeholders meeting made up of Traditional Rulers, Leaders of Non indigenes in ONELGA, Chiefs, village/community leaders, the political class, security agencies, heads of CDCs and leaders of Religious bodies sympathised with those who had already scheduled their ceremonies such as marriages, burials, church crusades and other social/traditional gatherings this period before the ban by government, saying they should bear the pains and put them off indefinitely as it is for the safety of all.
He said though the measures are painful, it is sacrifice people must make to protect themselves in the face of the spreading global pandemic.
The revered Traditional Ruler thanked the Management of Federal College of Education (Technical), Omoku and other public and private educational institutions in ONELGA for their prompt compliance to the government order by temporarily closing their institutions but appealed to the People of ONELGA not to panic, or increase prices of goods or transportation but to first protect themselves by using recommended hand sanitizers, face masks, maintain social distance and observe personal hygiene as prevention is cheaper and better than cure.
Those who spoke at the meeting commended the Oba of Ogbaland for convoking the meeting describing it as a step in the right direction and promised to comply with his Royal directive as ordered by government for the interest of all citizens of the area.
