By Polycarp Nwaeke
The Chairman of Etche Local Government Council, Boniface Njoku, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling land grabbing in the area.
His assurance follows a report presented by the council’s Committee on Anti-Land Grabbing, Land Acquisition Management and Development.
Receiving the report, Njoku reviewed details of recent inspections and dispute-related activities carried out across various communities. He described land grabbing as a major concern and stressed the need for decisive action to restore order and protect residents.
The chairman commended the committee for its efforts and called for sustained collaboration. He assured that the council remains committed to ensuring lasting peace and proper land administration across the Etche ethnic nationality.
Njoku also warned against unlawful land possession, particularly by some security operatives. He decried reports of illegal arrests linked to land disputes and vowed that his administration would not tolerate intimidation or exploitation of residents under the guise of land ownership.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Anti-Land Grabbing Committee, Emma Nwaobilor, disclosed that the team carried out multiple site inspections in Akpoku and Odogwa communities over the weekend, while also addressing several land-related disputes. He added that an estate developer was found to have violated approved regulations and was directed to halt further activities pending compliance.
