Gbenemene Of Bangha, King Baridam, Breaks Silence After Surviving Assassination Attempt

The Gbenemene of the Ancient Bangha Kingdom and Chairman of the Khana Traditional Rulers Council, HRM King (Dr.) Suanu Timothy Yormaadam Baridam, has broken his silence following a near-fatal assassination attempt, expressing deep gratitude to God and those who stood by him during his ordeal.
King Baridam was ambushed and shot multiple times on January 25, 2026, while returning from a meeting in Khana, Ogoniland.
The attack, which sparked widespread concern across the region, left the monarch hospitalized for weeks.
However, in a series of appreciation messages shared on his official social media platforms, he confirmed his recovery and acknowledged the support he received from prominent leaders and close associates.
“I give all glory to God Almighty for preserving my life,” the monarch said. “Your Excellency, your timely intervention and support were instrumental in saving my life. My family and I remain deeply grateful.”
He specifically appreciated Siminalayi Fubara for his intervention, describing it as life-saving, while also commending Senator Lee Maeba for his “timely call, personal visit, and continued assistance,” which he said were invaluable during his hospitalization.
King Baridam further expressed gratitude to Senator Magnus Abe, noting that “your personal visit and support during my hospital stay exemplified true brotherhood and compassion.”
He also thanked Chief Lesi Maol for his longstanding friendship, stating, “Your unwavering support from our childhood days has been a cornerstone in my life.”
In addition, the monarch acknowledged a close associate, Thomas, for his decisive role during the crisis.
“Your swift and decisive actions had a profound impact on my survival. Your leadership and friendship mean the world to me,” he added. Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police have confirmed the arrest of suspects linked to the attempted assassination, with investigations ongoing to apprehend other members of the group behind the attack.
