Wike, Saraki Confirm PDP Will Be On Ballot In 2027

The People’s Democratic Party has reaffirmed its readiness to participate in the 2027 general elections, despite its ongoing internal crisis.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, made the declaration on Sunday while addressing delegates at the party’s 2026 national convention held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

Wike’s remarks came in response to concerns raised by former Senate President Bukola Saraki and Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro over the party’s ability to field candidates in the next general elections.

The minister commended party members who have remained loyal amid the crisis, praising their resilience in the face of what he described as internal betrayal and external criticism.

He also criticised the recent wave of defections by governors and other stakeholders, describing the trend as a reflection of weak leadership.

Wike assured delegates that the party would be repositioned to meet the expectations of Nigerians ahead of the 2027 polls.

Similarly,  former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has expressed confidence that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will field candidates in the 2027 general elections.

Saraki made the declaration on the 29,Sunday 2026, while speaking at the party’s national convention, noting that the successful conduct of the gathering and validation of its internal processes have positioned the PDP for participation in the next electoral cycle.

According to him, the convention underscored the party’s continued relevance and widespread support across the country.

“We now have a party that people can no longer blackmail or make fun of aspirants, saying, ‘oh, you will not be on the ballot paper.’ Now we know PDP will be on the ballot paper in 2027. This is a great achievement,” he said. The former senate president emphasized that the outcome of the convention has strengthened confidence among party members and stakeholders ahead of the next general elections.
