Discharged Victor Osimhen Targets Quick Return from Injury

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has been discharged from hospital and is now focused on rehabilitation following successful surgery on a fractured right forearm, raising optimism among Galatasaray and Nigeria fans about a quicker-than-expected return.
The 27-year-old underwent a three-hour operation last Tuesday at Maslak Acıbadem Hospital in Istanbul after sustaining the injury during a UEFA Champions League round of 16 clash against Liverpool at Anfield.
Osimhen collided mid-air with defender Ibrahima Konaté but showed resilience by playing on until halftime before being substituted.
The procedure was led by club doctor Op. Dr. Yener İnce, with scans confirming a fracture to his right forearm.
Although initially expected to be discharged a day after surgery, Osimhen requested an extended stay in hospital to allow for closer medical supervision and improve his recovery prospects.
Access to his room was strictly limited during this period, underscoring the seriousness of his rehabilitation process.
According to Turkish journalist Haluk Yürekli, the striker told club officials he preferred to remain under hospital care to speed up his return, a decision that has been praised by the club as a reflection of his professionalism and commitment.
Early medical assessments suggest a recovery period of four to six weeks. Osimhen has expressed confidence in returning within four weeks, with an additional period required to regain full match fitness.
His primary target is the high-profile Istanbul derby against Fenerbahçe on April 26. However, the club is expected to proceed cautiously and avoid rushing him back to prevent any setback.
He is likely to wear a protective splint on his arm upon his return.
Osimhen’s absence is significant for Galatasaray, who currently lead the Turkish Super Lig with 64 points, four ahead of Fenerbahçe, and with a game in hand.
Before the injury, the Nigerian forward was in outstanding form, registering 19 goals and seven assists in 29 appearances across all competitions. Meanwhile, Konaté has reportedly reached out to apologise for the collision that led to the injury, as Osimhen continues his recovery with hopes of returning in time to boost his club’s title push.
