Rivers Assembly Moves To Repeal State College Of Health Sciences And Management Technology Law Of 2001

The Bill seeking to repeal the Rivers State College of Health Sciences and Management Technology Law of 2001 has scaled through first reading at the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The Bill, sponsored by the Lawmaker representing Obio/Akpor constituency 2, Hon Michael Chinda, if passed into law will not only repeal the Rivers State College of Health Sciences and Management Technology law of 2001, which has become inactive, but will also re-enact the Rivers State College of Health Science and Management Technology law.

Presenting the Bill on behalf of Hon Chinda, who was absent during plenary, Hon Sam Ogeh, representing Emohua constituency, disclosed that the Bill has 125 sections and is subdivided into10 parts.

In separate development, the House also entertained a petition by the Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law over the mysterious death of an army captain known as Black Nule from Khana Local government area of Rivers State while in service in Kaduna State.

Presenting the petition on the floor of the House, the lawmaker representing Khana constituency 2, Hon Friday Nke-ee, said several contacts had been made by the family of the missing soldier to the Military high command with no reassuring response from them and prayed that the House do invoke its oversight powers to investigate the death of the officer and ensure justice is done.

Responding, the Speaker reminded the petitioner that the issue of defence is in the Exclusive List of the Constitution and referred the petition to the House Committee on Public Complaints and Petition.

Also referred to the House Committee on Public Complaints and Petition was the petition by Mr Peter Meko from Gokana.

Mr Meko had petitioned the Port Harcourt electricity distribution company for illegally disconnecting his house at No. 38, Bishop Okoye Street, even when he was not owing the company.
