…Expresses Satisfaction Over Management Of State Resources

The Chairman of the House Committee on Finance, Hon Ehie Edison, has expressed satisfaction over the way and manner the resources of the State are being managed.

He dropped the hint after the auditing exercise embarked on by the House on Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), with the intention of ensuring accountability in Government parastatals .

Describing the exercise as fruitful, he noted that it has shown to a large extent that the resources of the State are being prudently managed

“we saw details of prudent management of scarce resources where every item was given very clear evidence of constitutional expenditure and at the end of the exercise we are sure Rivers people will be happy and will see that there is value for money as we have been elected to so do,” he emphasized.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Civil Service Commission has described it as untrue, that the Commission has not been employing workers.

A Commissioner in the Commission, Prof Ikechi Nwogu, dropped the hint when members of the Commission appeared before the Joint Committee on Public Accounts and Finance.

He said the Commission has not only recently employed, but it has also promoted workers, noting that civil servants have been enjoying the best of treatments, such as promotion and improved welfare packages.

His words, “when you look at the way things are going, you will think we have not been employing, we have been employing”

Prof. Ikechi Nwogu, who maintained that the Commission is effectively executing all its functions, further said that it has been promoting within the limited space and timing as well as giving pre-retirement promotions.
