A stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Hon Destiny Iganibo, has described Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, as the best Governor so far in the State.
Speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt over the weekend, he stated that Wike is the best thing that has happened to the entire Niger Delta region at this point in our history.
Hon. Iganibo, who was an aspirant in the just concluded party primaries for the Delga State Constituency, said as a towering modern society reformer and an excellent administrator, it is his hope and that of his supporters that Wike will continue to take the State and indeed the Niger Delta region to greater heights through his excellent performance in governance.
The amiable politician made it clear that the pair of Wike and Mrs. Banigo was a divine arrangement to restore the State to her lost glory.
On the Neighbourhood Security Watch, Hon Iganibo said the formation of the scheme is in good faith and a welcome development that would complement the effort of the police.
He debunked the speculation that the outfit was politically motivated. “It is worthy to note that the scheme was a product of an Executive bill which passed through the Rivers State House of Assembly, established to complement security in the State by supplying intelligence reports gathered at the grassroot in order to nip security challenges in the bud”.
He noted that the recruits were indentified and recommended by their respective Traditional Rulers, who know them and can vouch for their characters, adding that as indigenes of the area, they will be in a better position to checkmate security challenges.
He further stated that directing the soldiers to disrupt the training of the Neighbourhood Watch trainees was most unfortunate, and ill-conceived as even the Nigerian Army recruits and make use of the civilian J.T.F in their fight against the insurgence.
On the agitation for a Riverine governor for Rivers State in 2019, the House of Assembly aspirant said that those agitators were not real and their action not in the general interest of the people. “Besides that Governor Wike, who has been generally acclaimed the best performing governor in the country, it is his constitutional right to go for a second tenure in order for him to consolidate on his achievements.
On the refusal of President Muhammadu Buhari to accent to the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill, Hon. Iganibo said it is clear that the APC led federal government is not ready for a free and fair election.
He, however, warned that rigging or manipulation of the 2019 general elections will back fire, as it is crystal clear that Nigerians, even foreign countries, are tired and sick of the abysmal performance of the present leaders.
“There will be a revolution if the people are taken for granted this time around as the sufferings, killings and corruption is too much, in this administration”. Hon. Iganibo said, while using the opportunity to appeal to aggrieved aspirants to pick up themselves, close ranks and work for the electoral victory of the PDP come next year in the overall interest of the country.
