Integrity Is Not Measure Of Capacity For Leadership – Obi
The Vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in this year’s general elections, Mr. Peter Obi, has said that the fact that a leader has integrity does not mean he has capacity to rule.
The PDP Vice Presidential candidate who spoke at a town hall meeting with Igbo non-indigenes in Rivers State, at Obi Wali International Convention Centre in Port-Harcourt, on Sunday, said that Nigerians need a leader with capacity to govern the affairs of the country. He said that the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has the capacity to govern Nigeria.
The PDP vice presidential candidate said: “I’m not going to mention the names of good people in this country. Some might say Mr. President has integrity. Integrity is not a measure of capacity for leadership. We don’t need such story that they have capacity to rule Nigeria”.
He said that the Buhari administration has failed to improve the well-being of Nigerians, saying that Nigeria became the country with highest number of poor people in the world under the current Buhari administration.
He also said that the Buhari administration brought about job losses in the country, disclosing that five million youths lost their jobs in 2018.
The vice presidential candidate further said that twenty-one million youths are currently unemployed in the country.
Obi who is a former governor of Anambra State said that Nigeria ranks high in the insecurity scale among countries of the world, saying that the country comes in third position after Aghanistan and Iraq.
He said that the country’s economy has performed poorly under the current administration, saying that businesses also collapsed under the government.
The former Anambra State Governor said that the All Progressives’ Congress-led federal government has failed to perform, saying that the Peoples Democratic Party will bring good governance to Nigerians.
He appealed to the people of the country to be involved in the electoral process and vote for the Peoples Democratic Party.
The vice presidential candidate also said that the future of Nigeria lies with Nigerians and urged the people to vote wisely in the forthcoming general elections.
He said that the PDP Presidential candidate will bring growth to the country, if elected, and would create jobs for the large number of unemployed youths across the country.
He said that the PDP presidential candidate would unify the country and protect lives and property.
Obi said that Alhaji Abubakar would turn around the economy and ensure a favourable exchange rate for the Naira.
Earlier, the governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike, who was represented by a former governor of the State, Sir Celestine Omehia, said that Rivers State fully supports the candidature of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi as PDP presidential and vice presidential candidates respectively in the forthcoming general elections.
Wike said: “This gathering today is important not only for our brother, Peter Obi, but is important for the whole Nigeria and for the whole Rivers State”.
He expressed confidence that the Peoples Democratic Party would win in the forthcoming general elections at all levels.
Those present at the town hall meeting included a former governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Senator Ben Obi, a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Austin Opara among others.
