Wike Urges CDCs To Be Election Watchdogs

Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has appealed to chairmen and stakeholders of Community Development Committees (CDCs) in the state to be watchdogs in the forthcoming general elections.

Wike said that there was need for CDC chairmen and stakeholders to ensure that the forthcoming general elections would not only be peacefully conducted in their areas but that they would also not be rigged by any persons.

He made the appeal to the CDC chairmen and stakeholders at the first-ever conference of Community Development Committees in Rivers State which held at Obi Wali International Convention Centre in Port-Harcourt on Friday.

Earlier, the coordinator of United Community Development Committees in the state, Mr. John Onwubualili, appealed to the state government to include CDC members in the governance of the state.

He requested that the state government should appoint one of their members as a Special Adviser on CDC Affairs and further appealed to the state chief executive to build a secretariat for the Community Development Committees in Rivers State.

In his lecture on “Citizens’ Sensitization And Participation In The Processes Of The 2019 General Elections in Rivers State”, Dr. Gabriel Pidomson, urged the CDC members to take an active interest in the forthcoming general elections and not shy away from the country’s electoral process.
