Rivers Guber Poll: Gov Wike Coasts To Victory

…As PDP Also Captures Rivers 3 Senatorial Districts

After all the hullabaloo that characterized the Rivers Stare March 9 Governorship election, the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) Tuesday commenced the collation of results from the 17 local government areas already concluded before the suspension of all electoral process on account of wide spread violence.

Governor Nyesom Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), governorship candidate took an early lead as the collation resumed.

Out of the 15 local government areas already collated and results announced, Governor Wike won in 13 and the African Action Alliance (AAC) in two.

The results further show that the PDP won in Andoni, Bonny, Eleme, Opobo/Nkoro, Ikwerre, Port Harcourt, Okrika, Omuma, Tai, Ahoada East, Emohua, Etche and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Areas. The AAC won in Oyigbo and Akuku-Toru local government areas.

The total number of votes garnered so far by the two contending parties is 426,276 for the PDP and AAC 129,855.

On resumption of collation Wednesday, the INEC is expected to announce results from Obio/Akpor, Ogu/Bolo local government areas to compete the 17 LGAs where elections were peacefully concluded and some units results from Ahoada West (24units) and Khana local government areas.

The total results from all these areas will help determine whether the final winner will emerge Wednesday or wait till the conclusion of elections in Gokana and Abua/Odual local government areas and some units in other four local government areas.

Meanwhile, the INEC has announced the National Assembly results for the remaining two senatorial districts in Rivers State. They are Rivers East and Rivers West respectively.

The PDP won in the two senatorial districts with Senator Thompson Sekibo George declared winner for Rivers East and Hon. Betty Apiafi named winner for Rivers West, being the first female Senator in Rivers State.

Hon. Barry Mpigi of the PDP had earlier been declared winner and Senator-elect for Rivers South-East Senatorial District by the INEC.
