Amaechi Loses LGA To Wike

Following the commencement of collation of results in Rivers State, the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) has announced results from fifteen Local Government Areas at the collation centre in Port Harcourt.

The Minister of Transportation and former governor of Rivers state, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, who allegedly supports the candidate of the African Action Congress, (AAC) lost his local government, Ikwerre, to the incumbent governor and gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Gov Nyesom Wike.

The table has it that the Peoples Democratic Party  polled 14, 938 while the African Action Congress  polled 5, 660. PDP also won in Port Harcourt local government area with 40, 197 votes, while AAC polled 11, 866. The contest is mainly between Nyesom Wike, incumbent governor and candidate of the PDP and Awara Biokpomabo, candidate of the AAC.  The AAC candidate is being backed by Amaechi. On the eve of the March 9 gubernatorial election, Amaechi had directed his supporters to vote for Biokpomabo.
