Ait Ban: El-Rufai Cursed Kaduna Senators, Aired It, And No Station Was Banned – Shehu Sani

Reactions continue to trickle in following the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) ban on Africa Independent Television (AIT) ; its sister outfit, Ray Power FM, the outgoing senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani has recounted how Kaduna Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai rained curses,  broadcast them to the public, yet not broadcast station was sanctioned.

The senator tweeted in response to the recent clamp than on Daar Communications, operators of AIT and Ray Power FM – following what the NBC described as a breach of its code.

The NBC had on Thursday announced it has seized the operating licence issued to the broadcaster after one of the programs on their platform, Kakaaki social was found to have violated the guidelines of broadcasting set by the commission.

The station was accused of airing content that was thought to be “inciting” and “unfair” after the social media oriented program aired comments made by social media users without vetting them.

The commission said it had withdrawn the licence until further notice, prompting reactions from the general public – with most of them outraged. A court had on Friday ordered the ban be lifted.

Reacting, the senator – who earlier described the ban as an utterly condemnable act; politically motivated; an act of ingratitude and treachery to strangulate the media outlet – has now recounted how some media outlets were used to propagate hate speech against him and his colleagues by Governor El-Rufai of Kaduna state, yet no station attracted ban from NBC.

He wrote:

“In May 2018, when a serving Governor openly Cursed us and called on the people to unleash violence and kill us, Whenever we come back home to visit our families, it was aired to the public and no Broadcast station was sanctioned”

Recall that El-Rufai had lambasted senators from the state for their roles in the rejection of the $350 million World Bank loan for Kaduna in 2018.

The senators were Senator Shehu Sani of Kaduna central, Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi, of Kaduna North, and Senator Danjuma La’ah of represents Kaduna South.

The governor used quotes from the holy Koran to rain curses on the senators.

“FRIDAY REMINDER: To the Cursed Kaduna Senators, the Enemies of the people of Kaduna State and their co-travellers – the Words of Allah: – Surah Al-Baqarah (2:9-12)
2:9 “They [think to] deceive Allah and those who believe, but they deceive not except themselves and perceive [it] not.
2:10 “In their hearts is disease (of doubt, hypocrisy, arrogance and disbelief), so Allah has increased their disease, and for them is a painful punishment because they [habitually] used to lie.
2:11 “And when it is said to them, “Do not cause corruption on the earth,” they say, “We are but reformers.
2:12 “Unquestionably, it is they who are the corrupters, but they perceive (it) not.”

El-rufai wrote on May 11, 2018

It was reported that the governor took the campaign to broadcast stations in the state.
