Book Publishing: College Provost Charges Academic Staff
The Provost of Federal College of Education (Technical) Omoku, Rivers State, Dr. Emmanuel Ikenyiri has charged teaching staff of the College to always carryout research, publish academic books/journals, attend conferences and workshops for their growth and progression.
Dr. Ikenyiri who gave the charge while declaring open the institution’s 2nd School of Science Education conference/workshop with the theme ‘NANOTECHNOLOGY , KEY TO NATIONAL AND INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT’ warned that any eligible teaching staff of the College who do not research, publish books, attend conferences or workshops will have him/herself to blame during promotions.
He commended staff of School of Science Education led by its Dean, Lady Doris Okoroh for organizing the conference and described the theme as apt, the field of Nanotechnology which is relatively new area in Nigeria have gained prominence and noticeable global impact both in private and public institutions, adding that the rapid advancement in Nanotechnology has created opportunities for novel approaches in research development and manufacturing.
In his address, the Chairman of the occasion who is the Assistant Director, Management and Development, University of Port Harcourt, Professor O.M. Adesope, noted that Nanotechnology is currently being utilized in Nigeria in the area of information and communication technology (ICT), space science technology, ocean research, health, agriculture, infrastructure development, industrialization and artificial intelligence though at minimal levels.
Professor Adesope, a former Lecturer with the Federal College of Education (Technical) Omoku, who was represented by Dr (Mrs) Ukoha of Uniport lauded the present leadership of the College, led by Dr Emmanuel Ikenyiri for all the new academic innovations and progresses going on in the College and called on all staff and students to join hands with the Provost to move the College forward.
