GFGG Expresses Fear, Disappointment Over INEC Unreadiness For 2019 Election

One of the vibrant political associations in Nigeria under the aeges of Grassroots For Good Governance (GFGG) in support of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed fear, outrage and disappointment over the sudden postponement of the 2019 general election.

In a communiqué signed by Madam Princess Joy Kanu and Comrade Levi Kenaam, National Coordinator and Rivers State Coordinator of the group respectively, after its stakeholders meeting on Monday February 18, 2019, the group said the electoral umpire succeeded in showcasing their incompetence by the cancellation with its consequent colossal waste on the nation after over three years of preparation.

The group said it finds it difficult to believe that logistics as stated by INEC was the reason for the postponement given that the wonder woman of INEC, Alhaja Amina Zakari is the person in charge of the logistic Unit.

G4GG dismissed the reasons alluded for the INEC’s dismal performance and join other stakeholders to call for an independent investigation into the real cause of the cancellation. The group wondered aloud if the electoral umpire under Prof. Mahmood Yakubu would be trusted for a free, fair, credible and transparent 2019 election.

The group further observed that the effect of the postponement was beyond national boundaries as internal and external observers were already mobilized for the assignment.

According to the National Coordinator of the Grassroot for Good Governance (GFGG), Madam Princess Joy Kanu in an interview “the effects of the postponement on the jaundiced Nigerian economy and her citizens was enormous as many Nigerians managed to make it to their voting points on the eve of the election to exercise their franchise only to be disappointed with the sad news at the last minutes”.

What about the INEC officials, adhoc staff and security agents that had been mobilized.” She queried. The National Coordinator stated categorically that in the eyes of the World Nigerians are really jokers.”

The group equally expressed reservation whether INEC under Prof. Yakubu has learnt any lessons from the last experience and is determined to get it right this time around without being teleguided by the APC led federal government.

GFGG made it clear that with the excellent performance of Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike in Rivers State and some other PDP states, it would be a herculean task to rig out the PDP in these states.

“Besides the Atiku/PDP manifesto on how to revive Nigeria is very clear to the electorates”.

The group used the opportunity to urge its members to resume their sensitization programme again with the additional campaign days approved in order to ensure that no stone is left unturn in their determined effort to return 100% bulk votes to ensure victory to all the PDP candidates.

“Particularly in Rivers State, Gov Wike and his lieutenants must be returned for their second term ambition to enable them consolidate on their marvelous achievements these past years,” Princess Kanu declared.
