The Chairman of Tai Local Government Council, Dr Jacobson Nbina, last Thursday presented Certificate of Registration to all Community Development Committees (CDCs) in the local government area.
Dr Nbina while presenting the certificates to Chairmen of CDCs of the various communities at the Executive Chamber of the Chairman’s office in Saakpenwa, said the presentation was in compliance with the Tai Local Government Area Community Development Committee (Establishment, Protection And Other Related Matters) Bye-Law No 2 of 2019 recently passed by the Tai Legislative Assembly and assented to by the Council Chairman.
The council boss said with the commencement of the implementation of the Bye-Law, all CDCs in the various communities of Tai local government area are to start a fresh mandate of 3 years from that day in accordance with the law. He charged them to operate in line with the provisions of the Bye-Law which is intended to bring democratic government and uncommon development to the doorsteps of the people in the grassroots.
Dr Nbina pledged to implement all the provisions of the Bye-Law which include the payment of monthly stipends to CDCs of the various communities and ensure that CDCs are carried along in development projects executed by the council.
He urged CDC chairmen to cooperate and collaborate with the traditional institution in their communities as they can’t operate without the Paramount Rulers and warned that he would not hesitate to sanction anybody who involved in any action(s) that would be inimical to the peace, stability and security of their communities.
In his remarks on the occasion, the member representing Tai Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Matthew Dike, thanked the Tai Local Government Council Chairman and Legislative Assembly for enacting the CDC Bye-Law.
Hon. Dike said the Bye-Law would enable a smooth democratic administration in the various communities and enjoined them to take their responsibilities seriously.
The State lawmaker called for mutual respect and understanding between the CDCs and traditional institutions in the area so as to move their communities forward.
Responding on behalf of the Chairmen of CDCs Joseph Nkasu, expressed appreciation to the council for the enactment of the Bye-Law and assured the council Chairman of the readiness of the CDCs to comply with the provisions of the law.
Present at the occasion were Paramount Rulers of various communities, former Caretaker Committee Chairmen, Community leaders and delegation of Rivers State CDC forum led by their coordinator, Hon John Onwubuachi.
