100 Days: Port-Harcourt Residents Appeal To Gov Wike On Flooding
Residents of Port-Harcourt metropolis have appealed to Governor Nyesom Wike to deal with the problem of flooding in Rivers State as he celebrates one hundred days in office.
One of those who spoke in an interview on Tuesday said Governor Wike should ensure appropriate authorities work on blocked drains in the metropolis to channel water away to rivers and avoid flooding in the state.
Mrs. Joy Jeremiah said in the interview that Governor Wike should take cue from other state governors dealing with the problem of flooding in their own states.
She expressed sadness that water would get into homes of people in some parts of the state after a heavy rainfall and implored the state chief executive to solve the problem.
Also speaking, Mr. Gashon Bob-Manuel enjoined Governor Wike to be committed to tackling the problem of flooding in the state.
Bob-Manuel who is national leader of Coalition of Supporters of Democracy and Good Governance for Now said Wike should be willing to “demolish” houses on waterways to solve the problem of flooding in Rivers State, saying that a good drainage system in the state would solve the problem of flooding in the State.
According to him, people had violated the “urban plan” of Port-Harcourt and enjoined Governor Wike to take a bold step in addressing the problem.
On his part, Mr. Alalibo Gogo Abite, also said the Wike administration needs to ensure blocked drains are worked on so that rainwater could be carried away after rainfall.
He also expressed sadness that there would be problem of flooding in the state after a heavy fall of rain.
He however, commended Governor Wike for the projects completed and commissioned in his first 100 days in office as second-term governor of Rivers State.
Governor Nyesom Wike who is serving his second term in office as governor of Rivers State is marking his hundred days in office with the commissioning of projects across the state.
