Indiscriminate Parking: Bus Drivers Laud Task Force’s Move To Impound Erring Trucks
Bus drivers operating along the Eleme Tai axis of the East West road has backed the Rivers State Government Task Force on Illegal Parks and Street Trading move to arrest and prosecute truck drivers who continue to park indiscriminately on the road.
Some of the mainly commercial bus operators who spoke to National Network on Monday, said the action of the truck drivers constitute a nuisance and poses threat to lives of commuters and other road users.
Mr. Patrick Rufus who plies from Akpajo to Bori, headquarters of Khana Local Government Area, lamented that drivers sometimes, mistaken some of the stationary trucks to be moving, adding that such situations, in the process result to accidents.
He said the situation is further made worse by the deplorable state of the roads, adding that these stationary trucks also create traffic jam as the road is narrowed to a single lane.

Eddie agreed with Mr. Rufus about the long traffic often created when truck drivers and their conductors turn the area into a market by patronizing food vendors and other traders.
The bus drivers, who commended Governor Wike for setting up the Taskforce, said there has been remarkable sanity at the Akpajo/Elelenwo Junction of the East West road as vehicles no longer park indiscriminately to pick passengers, even as they acknowledged that trading on the road have been curtailed.
They also lauded the Chairman of the Taskforce, Hon. Bright Amaewhule for a job well done and urged him to keep it up.
