The crisis rocking Bomu and Lewe communities in Gokana Local Government Area for the past three years will soon come to an end as Hon. Vidac Kobani the local government chairman and other well meaning individuals from the area has waded into the matter with a view to finding a lasting solution to the problem.
Following the development, a peace rally was organized last Saturday with the sole aim of reconciling the rival communities.
The well attended peace rally started from the local government headquarters in Kpor and was led by the local government chairman, Hon. Kobani. The first point of call as the massive crowd file out of the council headquarters was the Kpor police division where the two traditional rulers representing the communities took their turns to address the crowd and sued for peace. They also assured the police DPO of Gokana, Mr. Danladi that they were ready to work assiduously with the security to ensure the return of peace to the area. The peace rally saw the people trekking round various communities of Gokana chanting songs of praise to God for permanent return of peace to the two communities, displaying placards with different inscription which included, “No More Cultism, Bomu and Lewe has finally reconcile, We are one”, amongst others.
The police and other security personal were also on ground to provide the needed security and protection throughout the rally which was finally terminated at the Bomu and Lewe roundabout.
Hon. Kobani the chairman of Gokana local government area while addressing the people thanked them for participating in the rally and enjoined them to abide by the peace between the two communities, adding that no meaningful development can take place in an atmosphere devoid of peace. He also advised the youths to shun cultism and other forms of criminalities.
The Gokana local government boss who commended governor Nyesom Wike for his efforts at restoring permanent peace to Gokana, stressed that what he had done was a clear indication of his genuine love for Gokana people and assured that the people will continue to support him.
On his part, the paramount ruler of Lewe community, Chief Philips Lebatom pleaded with the youths to give peace a chance. He disclosed that the cause of the crisis was as a result of disagreement between two rival cult groups from Lewe and Bomu over oil bunker and not land dispute as speculated in different quarters.
Similarly, Chief Evangelist Nyenda Nasikpo the paramount ruler of Bomu community who maintained that the people of the area are tired of the crisis, urged the youths to embrace peace.
He also revealed that several persons have lost their lives and properties worth millions of naira destroyed as a result of the crisis. Chief Nyienda want the government to support the community by rehabilitating the houses and school destroyed during the crisis.
Also Mene Stephen Bari Ara Kpea the paramount ruler of Mogo community who lamented that the crisis has lingered for so long advocated for the traditional oath taken, saying that’s the only way that the problem will be put to rest permanently.
