The former Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Information, Rivers State, Chief Mike Elechi, has applauded the management and staff of National Network for not only remaining in business for 15 years but also being consistent and regular on newsstands throughout the period.
Chief Elechi, now a traditional ruler (Obuanweze III) of Elele Kingdom, who stated this while receiving the editorial staff of the National Network in his Elele Palace expressed satisfaction with the way the newspaper has carried on since its inception 15 years ago.
He said the amazing crowd that graced the recent celebration of the 15th anniversary of the newspaper is an eloquent testimony of the confidence the people have in National Network.
Eze Elechi said for National Network to have remained unwavered in what it believes in, not minding which government is in power underscores its success and public trust.
The traditional ruler said it is not usual to have a very large turnout to media events because of the critical posture of the press but the National Network has disproved the theory.
“Media events are like police events. People hardly grace such occasions but because National Network has done exceptionally well in these 15 years and continues to do well, everybody is happy with it. The large turnout at its just concluded 15th anniversary shows it’s on the right path and should continue with the spirit”, Chief Elechi declared.
He said though National Network may not have all the money it deserves, it has public trust and this should serve as its own collateral for operations.
Chief Elechi expressed joy for relating with, and being part of the success story of National Network having related with the newspaper from when he was the permanent secretary, Ministry of Information, a position he used to change the negative narrative of the state by the media and which has endured till date.
He called on all other newspapers operating in Rivers State to borrow a leaf from National Network while pledging his preparedness to always identify and support National Network whenever necessary.
Chief Mike Elechi was one of those honoured at the 15th anniversary of National Network Newspaper in appreciation of his media friendliness and humanitarian services to society both in and out of office.
He was conferred with the award of a distinguished Human Capacity Builder.
