Rivers State Road Maintenance Agency Ready For Action

The Rivers State Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Agency says it has acquired basic fleet of equipment and machinery to build an agency that would stand the test of time.

The Chairman, Prince Timothy Nsirim disclosed this while speaking to newsmen in his office.

He said that the agency under his leadership would operate a direct labour initiative that would ensure quality and standard, noting that the direct labour initiative would positively engage the youths and offer them the opportunity to acquire technical skills.

Prince Timothy Nsirim explained that the agency has already acquired 2 payloaders, 2 tipper trucks, 1backhold machine and a roller as well as asphalt cutting machines among others.

The Chairman also disclosed that plans are under way to acquire an asphalt plant as part of the agency’s direct labour initiative, emphasising that the agency would operate 70 percent direct labour operations.

“We will set a standard that others will follow”, he maintained.

Prince Timothy Nsirim noted that work on the NTA/Obiri Ikwerre junction has reached advanced stage as concrete reinforcement on about 382sq metres area have been completed, stressing that in a couple of weeks work on the section would be completed.

Prince Nsirim explained that the challenges on the NTA/Obiri Ikwerre junction was due to structural defect and steps would be taken to correct it to ensure durability of the road being a trunk “A” road.

“We want to develop a proper road maintenance agency for Rivers State with the necessary facilities that will stand the test of time”, he emphasised.

He called for patient among motorists as most of the roads to be maintained would be closed to traffic.

He also called on the public to always feel free to notify the agency of their identified potholes across the State.
