St. Mathias African Church Holds Pre-Harvest Celebration
St. Mathias African Church, Rivers West Diocese, Mile II Diobu, Port Harcourt last Sunday held its pre-harvest celebration in preparation for the main harvest which comes up on the 17th November, 2019.
Speaking during the sermon, the Vicar, Ven Joseph Osikighre admonished the members of the church to prepare for this year’s harvest, stressing the need and importance of seedtime and harvest time, drawing his reading from the book of Genesis 8:22.
He further said when a seed is planted, more is being harvested, using the plantain tree to drive home his point.
Speaking on the influence of social media on the youths, the guest speaker, Roselyn Batubo kicked against the wrong use of the platform, saying some persons have lost job opportunities which ordinarily they are qualified for but were disqualified because of the kind of posts found on their sites and other platforms of the social media.
According to her, “Your Social Media is your new CV”. So people have to be careful about the kind of things they post online”, she concluded.
The highlights of the event were the members parading in their old school attire and awards given to elders of the church who have contributed to the growth of the church and have rendered selfless service.
The following members benefited from the awards given: Princess Alaba Okio, Mrs. Fabiawari Omungu, Sis. Ibitiem .I. Lawson, Elder Chief Omubo .B. Lawson, Elder Thanks Amachree, Mrs. Mary Horsfall, Bro, Adebayo among others.
The chairman of the 2019 planning committee, expressed joy with the co-operation of members throughout the programme stating that it was the first of its kind in the church.
