Peace Corps Of Nigeria Set To Partner RSG
One of the top most Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in Nigeria, the Peace Corps of Nigeria, Rivers State Command said it has set every arrangement in place to partner the Rivers State government with a view to creating a conducive environment for teaching and learning in the school system.
The Rivers State Commandant of the Agency, Amb. (Dr) Michael Obiora stated this in a chat with newsmen over the weekend in Port Harcourt.
He disclosed further that the aim and objectives of the Peace Corps is actually to redirect the dirailed Nigerian youths to their lost vision through educating, training, re-training and re-orientation.
According to the commandant, “apart from sanitizing the educational system, we also embark on sanitation exercises of our environment as well as creating awareness for the citizens on the need for cleanliness.
Dr. Obiora equally stated that though the peace corps is only four (4) years in Rivers State out of its 21 years of existence, the agency has made great impact in the society especially through their humanitarian services.
“My organization is fully involved in the state monthly sanitation exercise as our executive members also join our Local Government Officers to mobilize Rivers people for the exercise”. We have been to Obio/Akpor, PHALGA and will extend our services to the lkwerre Local Government Area in the next edition of the sanitation exercise” he stated.
Commandant Obiora however appealed to the security operatives to assist the Corps by enforcing the sanitation laws and perhaps make some arrest on defaulters for effectiveness.
On the challenges faced so far, he reeled out some of them to include the handicaps of an NGO and requested for some forms of logistics assistance from the government.
“We also need some financial support to be able to engage these our officers too in meaningful ventures” he said.
Commander Obiora made it clear that the Corps is looking forward to the day it would be transformed to a full Governmental Organization with full powers to achieve its goal of establishing peace in the country and as well empowering the citizenry to be self-reliant.
