The Oba Eze Ogba) of Ogbaland and former chairman of Rivers State council of Traditional Rulers, Sir (Dr) Chukwumela Nnam Obi II, has mourned the death of Prof. Tam David-West saying by the death of the renowned virologist Nigeria had lost one of its finest educationalists and patriots.
The Ogba monarch noted that the deceased was an accomplished academia, Elder statesman, dependable ally, outspoken, prolific writer, freedom fighter and upright gentleman who always stand for the truth no matter what.
According to the Eze-Ogba, the late Prof. Tam David, West a very good friend of his palace would be remembered for his incorruptible, fearless and a traditionist whose death is a great loss not only to the academia and the oppressed, but all good Nigerians.
The Eze-Ogba on behalf of himself and the people of Ogba Ethnic Nationality commiserated with the Amayanabo of Kalabari Kingdom, Prof. T.J.T. Princewill, the David-West’s family of Buguma and the entire people of Kalabari, Rivers State and indeed Nigerians over the death of this great son of Niger Delta and prayed God to grant his soul eternal rest and give the bereaved family and Nigerians the fortitude to bear the great loss.
The late Prof. Tam David-West, a onetime Commissioner for Education in the old Rivers State, former Minister for Petroleum and later Minister of Mines, Power and Steel who died on Monday 11th November, 2019 at the age of 83 years.
In a related development, the Oba Eze-Ogba has also mourned the death of a former Provost of Federal College of Education (Technical), Omoku, Rivers State, Dr. Kingsley Gbolaham Sowande, who died recently.
The Ogba Monarch described the late Sowande who hailed from Abeokuta, Ogun State and headed Federal College of Education (Technical), Omoku from 1996 to 1998 on acting capacity as educationist par excellence and a philanthropist, soft-spoken, simple, peaceful, humble and God-fearing gentleman who was loved by the people and prayed God to grant the deceased eternal peace and give his family and associates strength to bear the loss.
