Hacking Of RSU Website: SUG Blames Students

…Backs Management Decision On Re-Payment Of Fees

Following the discovery by the Management of Rivers State University (RSU), Nkpolu-Oroworukwu, Port Harcourt that many students who made payment on the online portal of the university allegedly used fraudulent pins, the Student’s Union Government of the institution has backed the University’s directive that the affected  students should  re-pay fees paid with fraudulent pins.

The President of Student’s Union Government (SUG), Precious Pepple, in a chat with our reporter blamed the affected students for leaving the Information and Communications Technology Centre (ICT)  of the school to patronize fraudsters who swindled them of their money .

Mr. Pepple explained that the University management detected students whose payment were made allegedly using fraudulent pins after a forensic audit. He said those who made their payment in the University ICT were not affected.

In the meantime, information at our disposal shows that so many of the affected students did not meet up the November 29 deadline issued to them by the institution to repay such fees. We learned that this has led to heightened anxiety among the students who were not able to re-pay the money as they risk withdrawal from the school.

Recall that the authorities of the Rivers State University had blocked online pages of hundreds of students who were accused of using fraudulent pins to make payments ranging from medical, tuition, acceptance and certificate verification fees among others.

One of the affected students who made her payment last week Friday confirmed to our reporter that the University management had unblocked her online portal after the payment.

The RSU management is yet to speak on the matter as Sydney Eyindah, the Registrar of the institution did not respond to several text messages sent to his mobile line by National Network on the matter.

Parents whose children are affected have reportedly called on the state government to wade into the matter.
