ASUU Strike: UNIPORT Faults Media Report On Prof Nimi Briggs

The authorities of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has reacted to what it says is a media misrepresentation of Professor Nimi Briggs, the Chairman of the ASUU, FG Negotiation Panel, as a serving professor at the university.

In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the university, Dr. Sam Kpenu, the management explained that Prof. Briggs is not a serving professor at the institution but an Emeritus Professor who retired meritoriously several years ago.

The university went on to state that Professor Briggs dies not also earn a salary from the institution as insinuated in the newspaper report.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Professor Nimi D. Briggs is a man of impeccable character who faithfully served the University of Port Harcourt as its 5th Vice Chancellor and retired meritoriously without blemish.

“This rejoinder is necessary to correct the misleading information put out by the media without taking into cognizance the journalistic ethics of investigative reporting.

“The management wishes to reiterate that it welcomes inquiries as the institution runs an open-door policy and called on the media to always verify their stories before publication”,  it declared.
