Natives Flee Obele Community As Gunmen Kills ‘Repentant’ Cult Leader

Reports reaching our news desk say natives of Obele town in Emohua local Government area of Rivers state are fleeing the community following the killing one Junior Kenneth, a repentant Deygbam cult leader by gunmen suspected to be Icelander cult members.

The incident occurred on Monday evening along a farm road in Omuechi clan of the community.

A native of the community told National Network that the slain repentant cult leader may have been killed by rival Icelander cult group who accused him of working as informant to security agencies and providing vital tips on the whereabouts of hoodlums and suspected kidnappers in the area.

The source revealed that there is serious tension in the community following the killing on Monday as there are feelers that members of rival Deygbam cult group may launch reprisal attack to avenge the killing of their former leader.

When contacted, the spokesperson of Rivers State Police command, DSP Nnamdi Omoni told our reporter that the Police is not aware of the incident yet.

However, reliable sources confirmed the incident to our reporter.

National Network had reported how the military and local vigilante recovered five assault rifles and ammunitions in the camp of a cult group second week of December last year during a raid on criminal hideout in the community.
