Group Lauds Media Over Ikokwu 5

…As It Celebrates Fifth Anniversary

A group under the aegis of “Government House Lodge, Nigeria” has commended the role played by the media (both social and conventional) in fighting for justice for the down trodden especially the five auto mechanics who were allegedly brutally tortured by the E-Crack Unit of the Nigeria police.

Speaking over the weekend in a special Valentine bash which coincided with the fifth anniversary of the group in Port-Harcourt, Chairman of the occasion, Elder Jeph I. Ubani Esq said that but for the media, the police brutality would have been swept under the carpet as usual.

He encouraged media practitioners to always stand up to their social responsibility in the society as according to him “a lot of persons die innocently in the police torture room or even sent to prison for no just cause”

Elder Ubani stated that it was time the Nigeria Police was reformed to conform with the modern trend as most of them he noted, appear to be operating under negative influence.

He said: “The aim and objectives of the Government House Lodge, Nigeria is for the betterment of our welfare, and to support each other and as well launch out to assist the less privileged in the society”.

He also disclosed that the club could be used for political mobilization for the people`s  larger interest. Highlight of the event was the presentation of awards of Excellence to some distinguished personalities for their contributions in the society including Chief Peter Inibiapuseleari Atamunodikiari Somiari of Somiari Town in Port-Harcourt  LGA of Rivers State for his philanthropic activities and peaceful disposition and
