Peace Returns To Umuechem As LG Boss, Commissioner Intervene
Residents of Umuechem in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State now have cause to heave a sigh of relief as peace has returned to the community following the intervention of Hon. Obinna Anyanwu, the Executive Chairman of the Local Government Area and the Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Prince Ohia.
The Community Trust Chairman, Umuechem, Mr. Austin Amaechi commended the efforts of the local government chairman for taking the bold step in conveying the peace meeting on April 21, 2020, noting that tough decision can only be taken by tough and decisive leaders.
He commended the initiative which he noted provided all those who believe in the growth of their community an opportunity to rebuild for development. “Hon. Anyanwu has shows the love and care he has for his people. He is a man of honour and truth who wishes well for his people the desired peace, he does not want little skirmishes to snowball into a crisis and he has achieved that”, said the Community Trust Chairman.
Mr. Amaechi told newsmen that the agenda for discussion was how to find lasting solutions to the perennial problem over youth leadership which had bedeviled the community in recent times.
He disclosed that at the end of the peace parley, the warring parties unanimously resolved to sheathe their swords and keep the peace.
Mr. Amaechi described the alleged embezzlement of sixty million naira (N60, 000.000) by the Community Development Committee (CDC) Chairman, Engr. Godson Nwairoegbu, as a trumped- up charge to weaken him in the fight to resist the reinstatement of the youth leader.
Engr. Nwairoegbu, the Community Development Committee (CDC) Chairman expressed joy that peace had returned to Umuechem and that what happened was a mere misunderstanding.
He said as at April 21, 2020 the Commissioner for Youths, the Local government chairman, a section of the community leaders and the youth leader including friends were in the Ministry of Youths and all differences by the parties were resolved, stating that no development equals peace in any given community.
