The Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ikuinyi Owaji Ibani has assured that the law seeking for the establishment of a security trust fund in the state will help Government in placing emphasis on protection of lives and property.
He described security as an important sector and Government’s first fundamental duty, adding that the law is a corresponding obligation that requires the Trust Fund board to be accountable to the people on how security funds are being spent
According to him, the Security Trust Fund Law will afford the people the opportunity to know the sources of funds for the various security agencies as well as where and how their funds are expended.
Earlier, most of the lawmakers who called for the passage of the bill had in their various debates described the Trust Fund as capable of enhancing the state’s security architecture adding that it will be funded by government and donations from different organisations.
Passing the Bill into Law, the Speaker of the House, Ikuinyi Owaji-Igbani, stressed the importance of security trust fund pointing out that security is a huge sector that Governors capture in their yearly address which will include the achievements of the Security Trust Fund.
Meanwhile, the 9th Assembly which has successfully rounded off it’s first session has lauded Governor Wike for the proactive steps he has taken in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and pledged to always embark on legislations that will support his policies.
Describing him as a true leader, the House prayed God to give him wisdom to decisions and actions required to save the state from the COVID-19 pandemic.
