Journalists Deserve To Be Recognised – Anyanwu
Elder statesman and patron of Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Prince Emma Anyanwu, says journalists occupy a special place in the society and deserve to be recognized.
Anyanwu stated this in Port Harcourt on Tuesday where he donated 500 nose masks and 500 hand sanitizers to journalists in the state.
He stressed that he was familiar with journalists and would always protect and project their interests at all times.
Represented by his son, who is also the chairman of Etche Local Government Area, Dr Obinna Anyanwu, he called on journalists to continue to discharge their duties to the society through constructive reportage.
According to him, “I am fully part of the NUJ family, I appreciate your efforts to ensure the greater good of all of us, hence why I instituted a scholarship scheme strictly for journalists in the State.
“I urge you to do your duties by maintaining all necessary health protocols by washing your hands, maintaining social distancing and warring of nose masks.”
Prince Anyanwu assured the Union of continued support at all times in their quest to build capacity.
Appreciating the gesture, the Rivers State Council Chairman of NUJ, Stanley Job Stanley commended the patron for his kindness and consistency to the union.
He noted that Prince Anyanwu was the first person to donate to the union, saying it represents how he valued journalists.
The NUJ boss stressed that the patron is the first among equal, who over the years has given immeasurable support to the union, including a yearly two million naira scholarship through his foundation.
Job called on other public-spirited individuals, companies and corporate organizations to come in support of journalists in the state.
“Journalists are front line workers like doctors, nurses and security agents; we deserve to be given special recognition and attention too.
“Let me call on members of the public, companies, government at all levels to lend in their support to journalists In this challenging period of Coronavirus pandemic,” he stated.
