NDDC: Civil Society Groups Back Akpabio, Urge NASS To Stifle Allegations
The current imbroglio raging over alleged award of contracts to the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Dr. Godswill Akpabio by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has been described as a distractive ploy to frustrate the forensic audit of the Commission.
Rising from their joint National Executive Council meeting in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital at the weekend, the Patriotic Forum of Niger Delta (PAFOND) and the Niger Delta Indigenous People Forum (NDIPF) the forum urged the Senate and House of Representatives to stifle allegations levelled against some members of the National Assembly by the NDDC directorate on Projects.
They made their positions known in a communique that was jointly signed by the National of Chairman of PAFOND, Owo Udoh and his counterpart of NDIPF, Richard Monday.
The forum also appealed to National Assembly members of the oil producing states to drop what they termed ‘selfish interests’ but allow the Interim Management Committee of the NDDC to complete the forensic audit ordered by President Muhammadu Buhari for the interest of the region.
“Dr. Godswill Akpabio should not be distracted by the antics of those that want to frustrate the forensic audit of the Commission. He should continue to work on road and other important projects of the region while the forensic audit is going on due to approach of the rainy season”, the forum advised.
The forum further resolved not to condone any attempt by persons or groups that want to frustrate the federal government development plan for the Niger Delta region.
