Oyigbo Police Inaugurates Advisory Committee
The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Mukan over the weekend inaugurated the Oyigbo Community Policing Advisory Committee.
The event took place at Oyigbo Police Area Command, as a move to stem the tide of criminality in the society area. The advisory committee is said to comprise men and women of impeccable character selected from different strata of the society within the Oyigbo Command which encompasses some parts of Obio/Akpor, Etche and Oyigbo Council areas.
Inaugurating the committee, the Rivers State CP, Joseph Mukan, represented by the Oyigbo Area Commander, ACP Collins Rosemary, said the formation of the advisory committee was aimed at bridging the gap between the police and members of the community.
CP Mukan said policing is everyone’s business hence the need for synergy among various communities and stakeholders to ease the work of the police. The Rivers police boss, commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Ibrahim for his foresight and commitment to the fight against crime and other forms of insecurity in the country.
He restated the need to set up community policing at the state and community levels as a way of combating insecurity.
In his remark, the Chief Host and the executive chairman, Oyigbo Local Government Council, Prince Gerald Oforji, expressed his readiness to partner with the police in order to nip insecurity in the bud.
Prince Oforji, represented by the chief security officer of the council, Nwankwo Francis, commended the effort of the Area Commander, ACP Collins Rosemary, in tackling insecurity in the area since assumption of duty.
The Oyigbo council boss said that since ACP Collins came on board criminal activities had reduced drastically in the area, urging others to emulate her professionalism.
In attendance were traditional rulers in the three Local Government Area. They include Eze Ohna Oyigbo, HM King Nwaji Mike, Onyi Ishi Ala Chokota Igbo in Etche Local Government Area, Iriebe paramount ruler, HRH Eze Jeremiah Worenwu. The traditional rulers expressed their support for the formation of the advisory committee, saying their input in nominating the membership of the committee should be considered to avoid unwanted elements.
They showered encomiums on the Oyigbo area commander, ACP Collins Rosemary for living above expectations in discharging her professional duties.
Responding, Chairman, Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Oyigbo, Amb. Enyioha Felix described the inauguration as a welcome development .
Amb. Felix also commended the area commander, ACP Collins for reducing criminal activities in the area.
Despite heavy downpour, there was a large turn-out that witnessed the event.
