State Legislature Commences Deliberation On Proposal

The Rivers State House of Assembly is expecting the Appropriation Bill of #448billion naira from the executive arm of the state for 2021 Fiscal year.

This was sequel to the letter sent to the House by the Executive Governor, Bar. Nyesom Wike requesting its approval to present the 2021 budget estimates on Wednesday 2nd December 2020.

Meanwhile the House has approved the Rivers State Medium Term Expenditure framework (MTEF) for the years 2021-2023 as proposed by the executive arm.

Speaker Ikwuinyi Owaji Ibani while reading the letter to members on the floor of the House said the Medium Term Expenditure framework forms the basis for the considerations and projections for the budget of the state for the fiscal year 2021.

He highlighted the major focus of the MTEF and described it as a well thought out plan that would benefit the state if followed judiciously.

Commencing debate on the document, House leader Martin Amaehwule  said the document is in line with the Rivers State fiscal policy  law and clearly shows expected revenue side by side the expenditure for the maximum benefit of the state.

Urging members to endorse the approval of the documents he noted that the projections in the document show that the present administration is moving in line with the expectations of the people as it relates to finance.

Other lawmakers who spoke including Mathew Dike of Tai constituency and Igwe Aforji of Oyibo constituency. They described the MTEF as apt adding that any society that fails to plan has already planned to fail.

They called for the approval of the MTEF, stating that it would serve as a base for quality services in the state.
