Ogbakor Ikwerre Cultural Organization Ends Convention In Port Harcourt

…Cautions Over Derogatory Remarks About  Ikwerre People

The apex cultural organization of Ikwerre ethnic nationality recently held its 224th convention at Akpabu, in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Rising from the sitting Sunday, March 28, 2021, the Ogbakor Ikwerre Cultural Organization Worldwide took a position on a wide range of issues affecting the Ikwerre people with special message of appreciation to Governor Nyesom Wike for all his landmark achievements in the state and in Ikwerre land in particular.

A communiqué issued at the end of the convention and jointly signed by Prof. Emenike Wali, President-General and Dr. Chuku, Denne Chinogonum, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Cultural Organization respectively, commended the prevailing peace in Ikwerre communities, appealing for its sustenance and advising the youths to be part of the peace initiatives by the state government and the security agencies.

The Convention also frowned seriously on the rate at which Ikwerre land is being sold to land speculators and resolved that land be rather leased for short or long term purposes.

The Convention also condemned in very strong-terms the reference to “Ikwerre people as Fulanis living as parasites” in Rivers State, reminding individuals with such notions of the enormous contributions made by the Ikwerre ethnic nationality in terms of land, oil and gas to the Nigerian economy.

On the political front, the Convention called on the political class of Ikwerre ethnic nationality to participate in all the activities of the organization especially as this will create a synergy between the Ogbakor and the political class.
