Obio/Akpor Council Chairman Ties Achievements To Prudent Management

The executive chairman of Obio/Akpo Local Government Council, Mr Solomon Abel Eke, said his achievements in office irrespective of paucity of funds is as a result of prudent management of funds.

He made the statement during a media tour of his projects in Obio/Akpo local government area. He said any money that comes to the council is well utilized as his administration has been able to do landmark achievements with funds generated.

He also said he has a roboust relationship with his staff and the legislative council who according to him have been enjoying regular payment of salaries in his administration.

Mr Eke further said that to ensure the coucillors work effectively he bought cars for them and also gave each of them including their clerks and some other people a plot of land to build their residential houses.

On why he is seeking for re-elction, he said ”I am clamouring for second term because I have a lot of things to do, like we  are about  doing a sports center, which is my dream  and I have not realized it, Obio-Akpor fish farm, jetty with a speed boat that can generate funds for the council, more schools. We have already tied revenues to these projects so we need to come back to finish them, so I will ask that they give me another chance so that I can be able to do those that I have not been able to do, they are a lot”.

“My role model is Nyesom Wike because he does not pretend and the projects are those that have direct impact on the people”.

He however admitted that he has not been able to surpass his predecessors. ” I cannot say that I have been able to surpass my predecessors, because I am struggling to do what they did”.

He noted that Obio/Akpor properly started with an elective position that brought in Nyesom Wike into office in 1999-2003 first tenure and 2003 –2006 second tenure adding that during Wikes regime he built almost 8 or more roads while he is still struggling to do 2. According to OBALGA boss, Nyesom Wike also  did bore holes in all the communities in Obio/Akpor, while he been able to do  just 4, he also  built schools, and  health centers which his administration has not been able to  do.

He further admitted that while the administration of Timothy Nsirim built international market and also directed that market be built in all the 17 wards in Obio/Akpor, built 15 roads, his own administration is still struggling to build 2.

He said the magic behind his predecessors’ performance is because allocation, and internally generated revenue were better then noting that so many companies have left Rivers-State because of alleged insecurity.
