Police Sergeant In Trouble For Allegedly Engaging In Illegal Bunkering
A Police Sergeant simply identified as Basil reportedly serving at MOPOL 48, Omoku in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government of Rivers State may have landed himself in trouble for an allegation by one Iyke Opara, a native of Elele, Ikwerre Local Government Area that the officer was involved in illegal oil bunkering which led to fire incident that razed his (Opara) one storey and six rooms building opposite old Delta Hotel along Port Harcourt Road, Elele, Ikwerre Local Government.
In an interview with our reporter, Mr Opara disclosed that on the fateful day in September last year, the vehicle conveying the illegal bunkering product allegedly owned by the Police Officer caught fire in front of his compound and spread to his building and that of his uncle, Mr Thompson Okoko.
Mr Opara disclosed that the inferno razed his one storey building, six rooms as well as five and one bedroom flats with four lock up stores which belonged to his uncle.
Opara alleged that before the incident, he had confronted the Police Officer who allegedly owned the illegal bunkering products and the driver not to ply the route where his house was located.
He explained that he made complaints to Elele Police Division the same day the incident happened but five months after the complaint nothing was done by the police which prompted him to report the matter to human rights desk of Rivers State Police headquarters at Moscow Road, Port Harcourt.
He expressed concern that the officer still indulge himself in illegal bunkering activities.
Mr Opara revealed that his seventy-year-old uncle died two months after the incident due to shock.
The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Nnamdi Omoni, was yet to make official statement on the matter.
However, a source who pleaded anonymity said that signal was sent to where the accused officer was serving for him to appear in Command headquarters, Moscow Road this weekend.
