Rivers NUJ Election: Congress Okays Credentials Committee

The Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has kicked off the process to conduct fresh elections into various positions in the union.  This followed the inauguration of a five-man Credentials Committee at the state congress meeting which held at the Ernest Ikoli Press Center, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

Members of the committee include Victor Ugochukwu Tew as Chairman, Ogboka Umeda as Secretary, while Ijeoma Tubosia, EgufeYafugborhi and Chinyere Okeh will serve as members.

The inauguration of the Credentials committee followed the unanimous endorsement of members of the 5-man committee by the Congress at a brief but well-attended meeting.

The NUJ State Chairman, Comrade Stanley Job Stanley, while inaugurating the committee, urged the committee members to conduct the election in line with the constitution of the union.

He thanked the Congress for its unanimous endorsement of the committee, while also commending the appointees for accepting to serve the union.

In a statement signed by the State Secretary of NUJ, Comrade Ike Wigodo, the NUJ Chairman assured the committee of noninterference in its work as he also promised that the Executives would give the committee all necessary assistance needed to discharge its duties creditably.

Responding, the Chairman of the Credentials Committee, Mr. Victor Ugochukwu Tew, thanked the Executives and the Congress for the trust and confidence reposed in him and other members of the committee to serve the union.

Tew assured that the committee would discharge itself creditably and give all aspirants a level playing field, devoid of fear or favour.

According to him, “The committee shall be fair to all and conduct elections that would make every member of this union proud”.

The committee was given six weeks to conduct the election.
