Omoku Communities Unite As Obuah, Orike, Others Unveil Working Document
Efforts by the 27 Communities of Omoku, headquarters of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area to chart a new dawn for overall development, have paid off with the unveiling of a working document for the people.
At a Town Hall meeting which aggregated the chiefs, elders and opinion leaders of the 27 communities atthe Omoku Civic Center on Sunday, the people unanimously hailed the document as a welcome development while pledging commitment to uphold its provisions to the letter.
Speaking at the event, Sole Administrator of the Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA), Bro Felix Obuah expressed joy that peace has come to stay in Omoku, adding that the document has in his words, answered so many unanswered question in the past.
Bro. Obuah who is the immediate past Rivers Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), applauded the committee for drafting out what the people had yearned for in the past years.
Bro. Obuah who is the Coordinator of the Committee’s peace meeting that gave birth to the successful harmonization of the document appealed to the people to treat the document as sacrosanct as it will chart the way for unity and development of the communities.
Speaking earlier at the event, prominent activist and member of the document drafting committee, Mr. Pureheart Ekeukwu urged all members of the governance structures to work together for the development of the communities.
According to him, the document which is christened ‘Omoku Peoples’ Resolution’ is divided into four Articles namely, Article 1 which showed that Omoku has 27 communities; Article 2 shows the Governing Structures of the communities of Omoku, while Article 3 talked about a single Constitution for the 27 Omoku communities.
Ekeukwu noted that each of the communities’ structures of governance have the CDC, Youth Body and Ezes, pointing out that Omoku as a group of its won will have a muster point as Assembly which shall be known and called the Omoku Coordinating Assembly.
The Articles also stipulates that each community would nominate one person and have the powers to regulate them.
Mr. Ekeukwu also said “The people of the area are moving forward from becoming a no man’s land without direction to a land with a well-defined structures”.
Earlier in his speech, Sir Emeka Ichoku who represented the Committee Chairman and nationalist, Barrister C.D. Orike, said the emergence of the document is a new dawn for the people, even though, according to him, they may not get everything at the same time.
He described the document as a stepping stone and appealed for their understanding, if there were unresolved and contentious issues to be addressed.
The Town Hall meeting was organized by the Omoku People’s Forum whose Chairman is Barrister Emeka Ichoku with Barr Uche Okirigwe as Secretary.
