Kalabaris Laud Gov Wike For Reckoning With Own People

The people of Kalabari have commended Governor Nyesom Wike for including Kalabari land and the people in his development agenda.

Speaking with some of the stakeholders in Abonnema during the flag-off ceremony of the Abonnema/Obonoma Sandfilling/Land Reclamation project Wednesday, June 23, 2021, George Kelly Alabo, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Projects said one of the basic needs of the Kalabari people especially to the Abonnema man is land.

He said the sandfilling project shows the depth of love and passion the governor has for the people of Kalabari, adding that on completion of the project it would make for expansion and development.

He explained that a total of 52 hectares of land would be sandfilled and reclaimed at the end of the project which he said would have a huge economic value, noting that a plot of land in Abonnema has the same cost value in Port Harcourt and that the project is expected to be completed under one year.

Chief David Briggs on his part, said the project means a lot to the people of Abonnema because for over 100 years, the people of Abonnema were unable to expand beyond the Island.

Chief Briggs thanked the governor for the expansion project saying it would pave way for the “New Abonnema”. “I must thank the governor of being proactive, all his projects are directed towards the immediate needs of the people of Rivers State. We the people of Abonnema and Obonoma will ensure that this project becomes a huge success because the governor is solving the main problems of every son and daughter of Abonnema”, he said.

The Amanyanabo of Abonnema, HM King (Barr.) Disreal Gbobo Bob-Manuel II, Owukori IX, and the Amanyanabo of Obonoma, King Enenimibo-Ofori Datome Obonogina in their separate speeches thanked Governor Nyesom Wike for his show of love.

The monarchs expressed gratitude to the governor for fulfilling the promise he made within two months, saying land is one of the key factors that encourages development, emphasizing that the project is very valuable to them.
