New Governing Council Inaugurated In FCT(T) Omoku

The 7th Governing Council of the Federal College of Education (Technical) Omoku, Rivers State has been officially inaugurated with an assurance by the Council that they will do their best to move the institution more forward.

Addressing members of the College Community at its maiden meeting, the Chairman of the council, Alhaji Umaru Aliyu assured that they were in the College for a positive mission and called for co-operation and support from both Management, Staff and Students to ensure that the vision and mission of the Council are realized.

He said that the Council members considered themselves privileged to have been on the board of the College and promised not to disappoint their appointee or the College.

The Adamawa born Technocrat/Politician promised that they will do their best to ensure that the College is upgraded to university status before the end of their tenure and commended the Management and Staff for the warm reception accorded the council members since their arrival.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Provost of the College, Dr. Emmanuel Ikenyiri KSC, enumerated some problems of the College which includes request to upgrade the College to Degree awarding institution, fencing of the (permanent site) campus two of the College, insufficient funding, payment of outsourced staff, low enrolment in NCE programmes and congratulated the Council members on their appointment and assured them of the support and co-operation of the College Community to enable them succeed.

Dr. Ikenyiri who was impressed by the Chairman’s remarks said he has no doubt in his mind that the College will witness a transformation and described the new Council as a body of zealous men and woman who are in the College to impact positively on staff and students.

In their separate goodwill messages, the Branch Chairmen of Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union, FCE (T) Omoku (COEASU), Dr. Oweisana, Akpokabowei M., Senior Staff Union of Colleges of Education in Nigeria (SSUCOEN) FCET Omoku branch, Mr. Pakaye Ekine B., Non Academic Staff Union, (NASU)  FCET Omoku branch, Mr. Ireju Cosmos Wokocha and the Deputy Provost of the College Dr. Moses M.M. Ekpa welcomed the 7th Governing Council to the College and assured them of their readiness to work in harmony with them but requested them to make good of its promises. Of transforming the College to higher levels.

Other members of the College 7th Governing Council are, the Provost, Dr. Emmanuel Ikenyiri, KSC, Otunba Aderemi Ogunbanjo, Mr. Bello Ahmed Gadanya and Mrs. Grace Iyorhe Federal Government Nominees, Mr. Stephen O. Marcus representing Federal Ministry of Education, Dr. Moses Ade Afolabi representing National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE),  Engr. Goodluck Ikenyiri, MNSE representing Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE),  the Deputy Provost, Dr. Moses M.M. Ekpa and Dr. R.O. Odenu-Iyede representing, the College Academic Board, Comrade Charles Adiela representing Alumni Association while the Registrar of the College, Dr Liverpool Eboh Onyije is to serve as Secretary to the Council.

According to a press statement issued by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the College, Prince Charles Amadike-Otoboh, JP, the Council members accompanied by Principal Officers of the College while on a guided tour of the two campuses of the College, took time to inspect some completed and on-going projects and also interacted with some Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments, Staff, Students and friends of the College.

The opening prayer for the congregation was offered by the Registrar, Dr. Pastor Liverpool Eboh Onyije while the Bursar, Lady E.G. Inimgba said the closing prayer.
