EMOLGA: Council Chairman Dissolves Illegal Bunkering Committee Over Loss Of Lives
Barely seventy-two hours after the fire incident suspected to have been caused by Rumukpe community, Emohua Local Government Area which claimed not fewer than twenty-five lives, the Executive Chairman of the Council Dr. Chidi Lylod has dissolved the committee inaugurated to check activities of illegal bunkering in the area.
Investigation by National Network showed that despite the presence of the committee, illegal oil bunkering activities have continued unhindered in five communities in Emohua LGA including Rumukpe.
The Chairman of the Council, Dr Chidi Lloyd in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Bright Jossy last Sunday approved the dissolution of the local government taskforce on illegal oil bunkering.
Dr Lloyd disclosed that the dissolution followed reports of alleged sabotage and financial gratification from the illegal oil bunkerers in the local government area.
Dr Llyod said “consequently, the local government council has made an official complaint against the taskforce to the police for thorough investigation and prosecution of anyone found culpable.
“Chairman and members of the dissolved taskforce are requested to handover all local government properties in their possession to the council secretary.
“Another taskforce will be reconstituted and announced to members of the general public after due consultation with relevant stakeholders”.
