We Cannot Be Intimidated To Forfeit Our Land – Rumuwele Family

The chairman of Rumuwele family of Rumuokwurusi, Iheanji Ihunwo says no amount of conspiracy or intimidation will make them forfeit the disputed family land to the neighbouring Iriebe Community spareheaded by Eze Jeremiah Worenwu.

Iheanyi Ihunwo disclosed this against the backdrop of alleged conspiracy and plot to portray him as a lawless and violent person by HRH, Eze Jeremiah Worenwu, the paramount ruler of Iriebe Community and his cohorts.

The Rumuwele family chairman who spoke to journalists in Port Harcourt said Eze Worenwu and his lawyer came up with this allegation to intimidate him, having resisted them from grabbing their family land.

Iheanyi Ihunwo said he is a peace loving person who lives in peace with his brothers and neighbours.

“I have no problem with anybody. The only problem I have is Eze Jeremiah Worenwu and his lawyer, who have been plotting to grab Rumuwele family land and I have not allowed them as the chairman of the family,” Ihunwo said.

He further alleged that in a bid to grab their land, Eze Worenwu had used different police units at one time or another to intimidate his family but to no avail.

“Having resisted them, they have now resorted to alleging that I am a killer,” he regretted.

According to him, their intention for making what he called a grievous allegation is to grab their land, vowing he will never allow them to do so as the chairman, Rumuwele family.

“I state categorically here that I have not wished anybody dead in my 38years of existence. Eze Jeremiah and his cohorts concocted the allegation,” he said.

“Let me also state here that Rumuwele Family does not have any land boundaries with Iriebe Community from time immemorial”. We have documents to prove that the land they are trying to grab belongs to us,” he disclosed.

He warned that the idea of Eze Worenwu trying to use security operatives to get rid of him will not work, insisting that they will continue to defend their right and not allow them to grab their land.

He called on the Rivers State Police Command, and other security agencies to disregard Eze Jeremiah Worenwu’s allegation as it was a ploy to intimidate him to succumb to their plan to grab Rumuwele Family land.

When contacted, Eze Jeremiah Worenwu denied Iheanyi Ihunwo’s allegation, stressing that the chairman of Rumuwele Family was merely raising false alarm.

“In any case our matter is in court and I have been advised not to make further statements on it,” he said.
