Bonny Gentlemen’s League Frowns Over Infrastructure Deficit In Bonny Island

… Proposes Internal Security Outfit To Combat Crime

As the Wike administration braces for commissioning of more infrastructural projects and flagging off of new ones in parts of the state, a frontline socio-cultural organization, Bonny Gentlemen’s League, has faulted what it saw as imbalance in spread of development by the state government.

The group had, during it’s 42nd Annual Convention on Sunday, December 26, 2021 at the Attoni Chieftaincy House, Finima Town, Bonny Island, expressed dismay that Bonny Local Government Area was not captured on the projects delivery circuit in the celebration of Governor Nyesom Wike’s third year of his second and last tenure.

In a communique jointly signed by Chairman, Current and National Affairs Committee, Amaopusenibo Barr. Torudoghubo D. Jamaica; Registrar, Dr. Victor Ibigoni Jumbo and Chancellor, Amaopusenibo (Squandron Leader) Olam Allwell-Brown (Rtd), JP, the League while commending Gov Wike for his giant developmental strides across the state, implored him to consider Bonny LGA in the next circle of projects flag offs and commissioning.

“To this end, we (the League) beseech the governor to earnestly consider the construction of internal roads in Bonny metropolis including the dualization of the King William Dappa Pepple Road, Bonny (from Coal Beach to Shell Gate)”, it pleaded.

While also lauding Gov Wike’s proactive steps in providing security and logistics to security agencies to combat crime and criminality in the state, the group called for the allocation of these assets including gun boats to Bonny LGA.

On the increasing security challenges in Bonny Island and environs, the League called on government to synergize and rejig the security architecture on the island, and deploy necessary offensive platforms in men and equipment, including helicopter gunships.

The Bonny Gentlemen’s League also advocated for the establishment of Bonny Island Security Network, which if backed by necessary legislation, would complement the efforts of security agencies in tackling the activities of criminal gangs on the Island, adding that such security outfit would ensure “an all-inclusive, proactive and preventive security and community policing on the Island”.
