Safe Ogoni Project Set To Promote Indigenous Languages

Language is identity and whoever fails to know his language has lost his identity. Against this backdrop, a non- governmental organization known as Safe Ogoni Project has rolled out plans to promote indigenous languages in schools.

The Executive Director of Safe Ogoni Project, Mr Nsagane Dale dropped the hint while reacting to the implication of indigenous language loss on the Society.

Disclosing that the main objective of his organization is to promote the interest of the Ogoni people, he expressed concern over the near extinction of the indigenous Ogoni languages especially among the youths.

 On how to achieve this aim, he said he has organised Khana Language Development Cup competition among nursery and primary school children in the area along side other urgent steps geared towards addressing this language anomaly.

Mr Nsagane disclosed that the event which will take place on Thursday,18th of July 2019 at Hollywood Child Education Center,Bori by 11 am is meant to bring back Ogoni language to the people.

He stressed the need to sensitize the younger generation on the importance of reading and writing in indigenous languages while calling on all patriotic sons and daughters of Khana and Ogoni at large to grace the occasion.

He expressed worry that Khana children are unable to read and write their language and reinstated the organization’s committment to ensuring that Ogoni language is rated high among the indigenous languages in Nigeria.

He also called on traditional institutions to push for the inclusion of indigenous languages in academic curriculum as such gesture would help in forestalling language endangerment.
