We’re Not Concerned About Where A Leader Should Come From – PH Residents

Residents of Port-Harcourt have said that they are not concerned about where a leader should come from. They say wherever he comes from he should perform while in office.

A resident, Chima, said that he would not be concerned about where a leader comes from but noted that the leader should carry people along and spread development around where he governs.

He said: “I’m not concerned (about) where any leader comes from as much as such leader is carrying everybody along (and) when it comes to projects project is sited in every part”.

He said that he would not care at all where a leader comes from but said that people would agitate because a leader would be guilty of ethnicism.

Another resident, David, said that zoning was not necessary to fill political office saying that what should be considered should be quality of those who occupy the office.

He said he had no problem with where the country’s president would come from saying that people should rather look at the qualities of those to fill political office.

“We need to go past all these. 2023 will come (and) all political parties will be talking about zoning (but) it takes us backward. Let’s forget about where they come from,” he said.

Nepotism and tribalism had dealt blows to the country, another resident said.

The resident said where a leader comes from should not matter so long as they could discharge the responsibilities of their office.

The resident,   Goddey Mike, said that governance was serious business and should be entrusted to those who could perform.

He said a lot of things would go wrong if people were elected into office without required qualifications.

Also speaking, another resident, Ozi, said the issue should be about good leadership saying good leaders could come from any part of the country.

He however said those with good leadership qualities should also not be stopped from becoming leaders by those who have connections.

He also said those with money and influence have bought political office using money to influence outcome of their elections.

The residents spoke when they shared their thoughts during a programme on Nigeria Info 92.3, Port-Harcourt.

Another resident, Ibiso, said he would support any leader who would make things easy for Nigerians no matter where he comes from.

He said some persons in leadership position were not able to perform the duties of their office and said wherever a leader comes from he should be able to positively affect the lives of people.

However there were those who felt that leaders should come from different parts of the country and also said appointments should be based on federal character.

For them, zoning should be in place to rotate leadership around the different parts of the country to give everyone sense of belonging.

Sharing his thoughts via text, Sokey Fubara said leadership should be open for all.

He also said that leadership should be shared.

For Collins, there are good leaders from every region and believes the best should be chosen from a region to represent people of the country.
