Nigeria Needs Confab Urgently – Clergyman

The Ikwerre Local Government Area chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) said it aligned itself wholly to the agreement of its parent body on the state of the nation.

Speaking with newsmen at the sideline of the CAN prayer meeting in Port Harcourt, the Chairman, Snr Rev (Dr) Chigonum Tasie Amadi of the First Baptist Church said there is urgent need for a national conference in order for the people to have the opportunity to discuss their common challenges for the continued existence of the country.

He also said there is need for President Muhammadu Buhari to address the nation on the current issues bordering the nation as according to the man of God, the people voted for him and not Garuba Shehu who is always ready to defend every action of the FG without thinking at every opportunity.

“We can’t continue to sacrifice the lives and property of the people on the altar of nationalism”, he declared.

He maintained that the FG needs to wake up and address the security challenges. When reminded of the 2014 confab organized by former President Goodluck Jonathan, and even the review committee headed by Gov El-Rufia of Kaduna State, Rev Amadi blamed most Nigeria’s challenges on implementation. “The leaders lack implementation of their own policies”.

On the part of the religious leaders, he maintained that they cannot do much than prayers and advocacy.

“We can’t carry arms or advices our people to carry arms but there is power in prayers, and prayer changes things”, he stated.

He said they will keep on advocating for the authorities to do the right thing.

On the recent security meetings in Abuja where no single personnel came from the southern zone of the country where the security decision is being taken, Rev Amadi lamented that it is the reason why most of them described Nigeria as a banana Republic.

“How can that type of lopsided appointment be allowed to take place in the first place”, he queried.

The man of God stated that because the 1914 constitution that amalgamated the regions into a country forcefully, there is an urgent need for the people to come together and renegotiate their marriage if it must continue.

“The unity and corporate existence of the country must be discussed”, he insisted.

While he did not subscribe to the breaking of the country, the chapter CAN chairman said the constant agitations, killings and protest are pointers to the fact that all is not well and something urgent has to be done.

On the alleged rumour of Islamization agenda of the country, Rev Amadi said he doesn’t believe that anybody or religion can dominate the others, “It is not just possible in Nigeria” he said.

He however admonished Christians in particular and Nigerian citizens in general to be steadfast and prayerful, believing God that all will be well at last.
