As part of measures to instil discipline in the education sector in Rivers State, the Chairman of the State Senior Secondary Schools Board, Chief David Briggs, has again appealed to the principals of State owned schools to desist from collecting illegal levies from students.
Chief Briggs made the appeal during a crucial meeting between members of the Board and school Principals at Rumuokwuta Government Sec. Sch. Port Harcourt.
The RSSSB Chairman who was represented by Chief Evans Nsirim Ogoloma warned that on no account should the giant strides recorded in the education sector by the Wike administration be thwarted by anybody.
He made it clear that the Board has resolved to penalize any principal that charges money outside the statutory WAEC fee of N15, 000 per student.
Chief Ogoloma urged parents to always report to the Board of any illegal levies charged by any principal or head teacher, assuring that drastic measures will be taken against such defaulting principal.
On the issue of cultism in schools, he said while the schools should not relent in instilling the right values in the children, parents, the church and mosques should also see their own role as fundamental in getting these children on the right path of development.
Chief Ogoloma cited an example of a certain principal of a school that was detained by the Board, who could not do the needful in a case of cultism while the students engaged in the act were arrested and handed over to anti-cultism for disciplinary action.
He accused parents of not taking disciplinary action against certain behaviors of their children which when taken to school may impact negatively on other innocent students.
Chief Ogoloma therefore urged parents to do their best to monitor the company their children and wards keep and ensure they teach them right values and societal norms.
